چکیده

Host cells secrete antimicrobial proteins en masse to counter extracellular pathogens, placing a strain on the endoplasmic reticulum. The interplay between defence and cellular homeostasis has now been dissected genetically in Caenorhabditis elegans.

Glycoprotein Quality Control and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) supports many cellular processes and performs diverse functions, including protein synthesis, translocation across the membrane, integration into the membrane, folding, and posttranslational modifications including N-linked glycosylation; and regulation of Ca2+ homeostasis. In mammalian systems, the majority of proteins synthesized by the rough ER have N-linked gl...

Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and Homeostasis in Reproductive Physiology and Pathology

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER), comprises 60% of the total cell membrane and interacts directly or indirectly with several cell organelles i.e., Golgi bodies, mitochondria and proteasomes. The ER is usually associated with large numbers of attached ribosomes. During evolution, ER developed as the specific cellular site of synthesis, folding, modification and trafficking of secretory and cell-su...

Mapping the crossroads of immune activation and cellular stress response pathways.

The innate immune cell network detects specific microbes and damages to cell integrity in order to coordinate and polarize the immune response against invading pathogens. In recent years, a cross-talk between microbial-sensing pathways and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis has been discovered and have attracted the attention of many researchers from the inflammation field. Abnormal accumul...

Endoplasmic reticulum stress in periimplantation embryos

Stress coping mechanisms are critical to minimize or overcome damage caused by ever changing environmental conditions. They are designed to promote cell survival. The unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway is mobilized in response to the accumulation of unfolded proteins, ultimately in order to regain endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis. Various elements of coping responses to ER stress inc...
